Implementation of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Giving FDA new tools to manage imports was a driving force behind the enactment of the Food safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Several new tools, like inspection and certification, originate in the country of origin. Others, like the Foreign Supplier Verification Program, will hold U.S. importers accountable. This article reviews several of the import provisions, including inspections and certification.

1st INFOSAN Global Meeting Held In Abu Dhabi UAE December 14-16 2010

The International Networks of Food Safety Authorities (INFOSAN), a joint FAO/WHO
initiative, is an established platform for sharing information on international food safety threats and best practices in food safety. To date most interactions among network members occur electronically or by telephone, but never in the context of a face to face meeting. With continually expanding global food trade, food safety emergencies that are international in scope are being identified more often posing new challenges to food safety authorities. This was the first International meeting of the Network. I participated in my capacity as a WHO Advisor to INFOSAN. Belize also sent a Delegate.
